The International Conference on Hindi as a Second / Foreign Language is being organised by the Centro de Estudos Indianos (CEI) and the Centro de Linguística da Universidade de Lisboa (CLUL) of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon (FLUL), in collaboration with the Ministry of Esternal Affairs of Govt. of India and Embassy of India in Lisbon, Portugal, with a focus on studies applied to the teaching and learning of Hindi as a second or foreign language. This conference responds primarily to the ongoing expansion of the network of Hindi-language centres in Europe and beyond and wishes to reflect on the challenges of teaching Hindi in linguistically diverse settings. In addition, research on the acquisition of Hindi as a second language is also encouraged.
Possible topics include but are not limited to:
– Second language acquisition
– Foreign language acquisition
– Hindi grammar applied to language teaching
– Teaching methodologies
– Comparative linguistic studies
– Translation studies
– Language policies
– Web-based resources (apps, dictionaries, corpora,…)
– Digital tools and technology
– Hindi in the virtual space — effective practices for hybrid and online teaching.
– Bilingualism and diglossia
– Teaching of language and culture
– Literature in the Hindi language classroom
Please submit your abstract using the EasyAbs platform { http://linguistlist.org/easyabs/IHCLisbon } before 30th November 2018. Abstracts should be less than 500 words (excluding bibliography) and should include:
– Title
– Clear indication of topic
– Methodology
– Research results
– References
We accept abstract submissions in Portuguese, Hindi, and English. Papers may be
presented in any of the three languages, but we encourage English-language materials
(handouts, visual aids,…) to be distributed for the benefit of all participants.
We expect confirmations of acceptance to be sent out in January 2019..
Full texts of the accepted papers must be submitted by 30st April 2019.
